James Neubauer, tLMFT

As we go through life, roadblocks and barriers to success are inevitable. Breaking down those barriers to create change can be difficult, but not impossible. Therapy can be a powerful experience where your first step is reaching out. Feeling brave enough to walk through the door means that healing can happen. Have you ever woken up and felt like you didn’t recognize the person lying in bed next to you? How do you handle it if you discover your teen making choices you didn’t expect? Have you ever struggled with things like anxiety, nighttime restlessness, racing thoughts, depressive thoughts/feelings, or felt that you are suddenly lacking the energy to do something you use to enjoy? When you choose to work with me, I will facilitate a therapy experience that is yours! Therapy should never be one size fits all, which is why I work to focus on your strengths and offer openness and a non-judgmental approach. In a shared space, we can find new meaning in your life. Let’s connect and find a way for you to overcome the problems you are experiencing to make them more manageable. I consider you the expert on what is going on with you, including your feelings, worries, and concerns.

I am skilled in the application of Narrative Therapy and work to integrate strategies from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness. I am level 1 trained in IFS. Internal Family Systems (IFS), which involves processing your experience of your inner world. For example, one part of you wants to feel better, but another part of you feels terrible. We will work with both “parts” of you to resolve these concerns. Internal Family Systems (IFS) takes the approach of examining our inner world and identifying our parts. “Parts” can be quickly understood as pieces of us that exist in our daily lives. For example, a part of me wants toast, but another part of me is on a diet eliminating carbs. At times our parts can contradict each other. Through IFS, we work with those inner parts of you to resolve those contradictions and alleviate stress.

My clinical interests include working with adults, teens, couples, partnerships, families, LGBTQ+. I am also skilled at working with clients who experience trauma, anxiety, gender dysphoria, and depression.

James offers in-person and telehealth appointments.
