Erin Forbes, LISW

Therapy is not just what I do, it is who I am. My passion for listening, helping and nurturing make me a great fit for adults, adolescents and families struggling with a variety of challenges. I have experience in a wide range of therapeutic styles and use these to work with you in customizing a unique treatment approach suited to your needs. I am well-versed in play approaches, including Adlerian, Autplay and sand tray. I also take a creative approach to therapy using expressive art techniques (drama, writing, drawing, painting, music) during sessions. My methods have been useful to children, adolescents and adults struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma and grief.

I am one of few practitioners in the area with specific training and skills in Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), and am able to use this in both individual and family sessions with parents and children struggling with defiance, communication barriers, social and emotional learning problems, and much more. I can provide education and learning materials using CPS, solution-focused and a variety of conflict management strategies.

I am trained in providing EMDR for adults and children, which is an evidence-based form of trauma treatment shown to have a real impact on how the brain understands and processes traumatic events. Using tools such as mindfulness, CBT, and narrative therapy often complement the natural progression of EMDR and can easily be incorporated into your customized treatment plan.

My clinical expertise and special interests include: autism, trauma/grief, anxiety, blended/step-family issues, life transitions, conflict management, ADHD, and depression.
